Adil
Originally hailing from Ranchi, India, Adil Rasheed developed an early inclination to the arts and showed precious talent as a painter. He received his Bachelor and Master degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay and a PhD in “Multiscale Modelling of Urban Climate” from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne, Switzerland. Presently he is working as a Research Scientist in the Applied Mathematics department of SINTEF ICT. With a mind equally inclined to the arts as to science and technology, he has also received junior and senior diplomas in fine arts from Bangia Sangeet Parishad affiliated to Rabindra Bharathi University, Kolkata.

Adil is an accomplished painter with several recognitions to his name in set designing and painting exhibitions. He has previously exhibited in India in the International Library and Cultural Center, Vani Chitrakala Kendra, IIT Bombay, where he was felicitated with the best artist award. He has also exhibited in Fribourg, Zurich and Geneva.

Adil’s paintings are characterized by the unique use of geometry that lends his subjects an ethereal air. In his paintings, the environment is broken up, analyzed, and re-assembled in an abstracted form depicting a multitude of viewpoints, but the subject is never discretized, thus leaving its identity intact as a whole. This aspect gives his paintings a distinct identity. Adil’s paintings vary from the abstract and esoteric to ones that have meaning for all, rendering emotion on canvas with panache.

Videos of his paintings in the making have attracted thousands of internet users on the popular video sharing website YouTube. They are not only a treat to the eyes of a casual viewer, but also an invaluable resource for amateur painters who can benefit from his videos that are posted on a regular basis showcasing different art techniques.

    Hi adil,
Even i am an engineer and hail from India with an inclination towards fine arts.I felt that these two extremes perhaps cannot go hand in hand but you are a source of inspiration for me.I shall strive to be perfect in both the arenas now just like you

    Dear Adil,
I am from US and was looking for something related to turbulence modeling when I stumbled upon your website. Well honestly I was appalled by your achievements. I am very confused about what I should call you: a painter, a researcher or a photographer. Your research, paintings, photographs are very innovative and has a signature of uniqueness. I will be happy if you respond to my comment. All the best for the good work you are doing.

    Hey Adil,

Remember me ? We met in the exchange party in Vivapoly 2006. At that time I didn’t know that the very shy person I was talking to was such a rare combination of art and science. And look I came to this site searching for some photographs of a bridal veil :)

    HI Adil,

We really enjoyed the workshop you gave. We have been learning painting for 2 years but didn’t know the basics. Your organized demonstration on the topic was very enlightening.

  11. Olav says:

I agree with Sylvie. We will not let you go back to India if you plan to return :D . When is the next workshop. I would also like to see your real paintings.
